Call for Technical Papers

The 2018 conference will be the 11th in the series of biennial conferences dating back to the Optical Security and Counterfeit Deterrence Technologies conferences begun by Ruud Van Renesse in 1996, and the sixth as the Optical Document Security Conference.

The conference stresses the technical aspects of optical security – and offers a platform to researchers, developers, manufacturers, and users of security to present their findings, new developments and new work on a technical and scientific level.

Many of the most significant developments in banknote and identity document security have first been unveiled at this conference, with development and commercialisation partnerships often resulting. With its restricted attendance by industry specialists it is the ideal forum at which to announce embryo technologies.

Topics

At the last conference in 2016, reflecting the changes in technology, the committee solicited for the first time papers related to:

  • the integration of optical security features into broader security applications, standards development and the methods for testing, examination and analysis of optical features, including the use of digital and portable devices.

At the same time, papers were solicited in the more traditional topics of:

  • protection for banknotes, travel and identity documents; identity management; document production and security application technology, which remain the core of the conference.

Specific topics of interest include:

  • Optically variable devices, micro-optics, nano-optics
  • Identification and authentication methods
  • Machine readable technologies, standards and developments
  • Substrates, inks, coatings and security printing
  • Image technology and product intelligence
  • Digital and 3D printing
  • Transparent security features, substrates, and their applications
  • Standards and analytic methods for testing of optical techniques & devices
  • Colour generation & use in security applications.
